Crytek Porting CryEngine 2 For Next-Gen Consoles
Tuesday, May 30 2006 @ 06:00 AM CDT
Crytek has updated their job opening page revealing it is looking for console programmers to help port the CryEngine 2 technology to next-gen consoles.

These are some of the responsibilities mentioned:
  • Maintain (optimization, adding new features) the existing CryENGINE 2 graphics system.
  • Assist in porting the source code from PC platform to the new gen console platforms (Xenon, PS3).
  • Assist in design of the graphics system and/or the animation system for the new gen console platforms (Xenon, PS3).
  • Develop and maintain the graphics system and/or the animation system for the new gen console platforms (Xenon, PS3).

Though EA has not announced any plans to bring the game to Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii, we would expect to hear an announcement sometime soon. Crytek is a video game development company founded by Cevat, Avni and Faruk Yerli in 1999 and is located in Coburg, Germany. They are best known for developing the game Far Cry and the CryENGINE that the game uses which includes PolyBump, a version of normal mapping technology.

In February 2004, Crytek's German offices were raided by police after an intern tipped off authorities about the developer's alleged use of pirated software. Multiple unlicensed copies of Maya and 3D Studio Max were reportedly seized in the raid. Crytek denied the charges.
