The New York Giants released three veteran players, linebackers LaVar Arrington and Carlos Emmons and offensive tackle Luke Petitgout, on Monday as they began to restructure their roster.
All three players began the season as starters for the Giants, who limped into the playoffs with an 8-8 record before falling in the first round to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Petitgout and Arrington, both former first-round draft choices, had their 2006 seasons ended prematurely because of injury, while Emmons missed four games with a pectoral injury.
Petitgout, who broke his left leg after starting the first nine games this season, has played his entire eight-year career with the Giants.
Arrington, the second overall pick of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins out of Penn State, was a Pro Bowl selection three seasons in a row from 2001. He joined the Giants this year but his season was cut short when he tore his Achilles tendon on October 23.
Emmons played four years in both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia before spending the last three seasons with the Giants.
