I recentley started vanguard beta myself. The game is not optimized yet so I would suggest running on Low or Very Low graphic setting until optimizing is completed. My puter is pimped out and if I run Vanguard on high graphics settings its monster choppy.

The game play actually seems above average. The best way to describe Vanguard for those not on beta is EQ style graphics, (real world) WoW style UI and feel and a lil' of both mixed into the gameplay.

Not all classes or races are playable yet. Not all zones or quests are available yet. Classes and races are still being tweaked. The game has changed drastically over the last few patches. For instances all heals have had there energy cost doubled.

I just got ofline a few minutes ago. When I logged in I was the 974 th person on. They are deffinatley proggressing in stability.

The other big point I wanted to get across after reading the past posts on Vanguard is the level progession. In my opinion it is not that bad at all. I was able to gain levels fairly rapidly at first like most mmorpgs and slowed down a bit once I hit lvl 20 ish. You do not need a group for all phases of the game however, you of coarse will level and have a much easier time in a group. Get this.... all classes have a huge roll in a group. I know, I know it sounds fishy but yes they really do.

I will say I am having fun with it. Different classes and completley different races, even the classes that are staple MMORPG classes such as Ranger or Warrior are alot different.

I cant really give a positive or negative review on the game as of now. It is to new and still being developed. To many changes to be certain what the released game will be like.

Vanguard seems to be on the right track to provide a solid mix of EQ1 and WoW. BUT.... Gives thy a finger SOE Gives thy a finger fucks everything up eventually. All I can do is hope Sigil will control more than SOE.

It is the end of september now so I thought I'd post a lil update on Vanguard beta phase 3.

IMO Vanguard is going to be what EQ and EQ2 were before they were SOE'ed to death. Yes, it will take quite a while to level your charecter up. Yes death penalty is harsh. (Especially to those who did not play EQ1.)
However, the process of leveling, questing and grouping is actually ... well its fun. At times it does feel like a grind (heh ALOT if you happen to get into a bad group and spend all your time corpse running eek ) But, overall it is alot of fun. It is definatley a skill game not a game for button mashers. People that are not great at there class really stick out and are avoided like the plauge.

I believe it will be insainly fun if your in a great guild. If you have a core group of people say 20-40 that are squared away the raiding is going to blow EQ2's out of the water.

There are no real major changes to talk about, just the normal tweaking of classes every few days as to be expected. I have 3 classes lvl 23 - 30 now ( 30 is max level for beta 3 ) and I enjoy all of them. I do think once the game goes live it will be hard for anyone to concentrate on more than a primary class, atleast until they get higher level and just need a break.

I am very happy to report that the only thing Gives thy a finger SOE Gives thy a finger is involved with is the bill collecting. Gives thy a finger SOE Gives thy a finger has no control of content what so ever.... as of now.

Vanguard is still not optimized of coarse, so the FPS is still nasty at times.
I invested a chunk of cash in a new Alienware Aurora 7500. It uses the NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 Dual Core Processor, Dual 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX - SLI Enable Graphics cards, 4 Gig's of DDR2 Performace SDRAM at 800 Mhz 4 x 1024 MB, 300GB (2 x 150GB) Serial ATA 1.5Gb/s 10,000 RPM w/ 2 x 16MB and a Alienware 700 Watt Multi-GPU Approved Power Supply. It ships in 9 days so that should bump my FPS just a tad. Rolling eyes I can't wait.
