Xbox 360 Phantasy Star Open Beta

SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe, Ltd. today announced that the Phantasy Star Universe multiplayer open beta for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft will be available as a free download on Xbox Live Marketplace for two days on Oct. 11, 2006 and Oct. 12, 2006.

Gamers worldwide will be able to play the newest addition to the epic sci-fi Phantasy Star series during a free trial beta period that will run for a full week concluding on October 18, 2006.

No PSP Price Cut Planned

Sony, speaking with Reuters yesterday, said they do not plan to cut the price of the PlayStation Portable for the remainder of this year.

John Koller, a product manager at Sony Computer Entertainment, told the news agency “we don't necessarily see the need to cut the price. We need to offer broader value and introduce new consumers to what the PSP can do." In the same interview, he also said there will be about 110 new titles before year’s end and that Sony would soon show how the PSP works hand in hand with the PlayStation 3.

Rapper Jadakiss Arrested on Gun Charge

Rapper Jadakiss was arrested on suspicion of weapon possession after a traffic stop early Saturday, his second arrest on gun charges since 2004, authorities said.

Jadakiss, whose real name is Jason Phillips, was one of four people inside the car, Detective Sgt. Joseph Pietropaolo said. He said all four were charged with criminal possession of a weapon because a loaded handgun was found inside the vehicle.

Owens, public enemy number one in Philadelphia following a series of explosive feuds with team mates and coaches last season, made his first appearance in the city since joining Dallas but his presence had more impact off the field than on it.

North Korea faced united global condemnation and calls for harsh sanctions Monday after it announced it had detonated an atomic weapon in an underground test that thrust the secretive communist state into the elite club of nuclear-armed nations. President Bush said North Korea has "defied the will of the international community." The U.N. Security Council planned a meeting Monday morning on the test, and the U.S. and Japan were expected to press for more sanctions on the impoverished North.

The old leather balls are being replaced by a microfiber composite model, the league’s first change in 35 years, and O’Neal isn’t impressed. The Miami Heat star blasted the ball Monday, criticizing not only the product but whoever was involved in the decision to use it.

After dialing his number all day with no luck, Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth finally got the chance Tuesday to personally apologize to Andre Gurode for tearing open the Cowboys center's face with a cleat.

Haynesworth spent much of the day getting nothing but unanswered rings and a full voice mail box, then connected in the late afternoon with Gurode, who needed 30 stitches to repair the facial cuts.

Mother Seeks Harry Potter Ban

A suburban county that sparked a public outcry when its libraries temporarily eliminated funding for Spanish-language fiction is now being asked to ban Harry Potter books from its schools.

Laura Mallory, a mother of four, told a hearing officer for the Gwinnett County Board of Education on Tuesday that the popular fiction books are an "evil" attempt to indoctrinate children in the Wicca religion.
