NCAA to Reconsider Text Messaging Ban |

The NCAA will reconsider three rules, including one that bans coaches from sending text messages to recruits, at its Aug. 9 board of directors meeting.
The board could reaffirm the text messaging decision, reject the decision or create new legislation. Current rules place no restrictions on text messaging with recruits. The new rule is scheduled to take effect Aug. 1. Should the board make changes, the rule would be rescinded. If it is affirmed, the rule would remain in place until a January vote at the NCAA's annual convention in Nashville, Tenn.

Professional wrestling star Chris Benoit, who killed his wife and son before taking his own life earlier this week, passed a random drug test in April, the head of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. said on Thursday.
Investigators have said they found anabolic steroids among prescription drugs in Benoit's suburban Atlanta house where the three bodies were found on Monday, raising questions whether they played a role in the deaths.

Injured starter Curt Schilling will not pitch again until after the July 10 All-Star Game, the Boston Red Sox said on Wednesday.
"He could throw now," Red Sox manager Terry Francona told Major League Baseball's Web site, www.mlb.com. "But I think they want to reach certain levels with testing... We want him to be able to finish the season being a consistent, good pitcher."

The National Basketball Association said on Wednesday it has reached eight-year agreements to let Walt Disney Co.'s ABC and ESPN television networks and Time Warner Inc.'s TNT broadcast league games through 2016.
The agreements, financial terms of which were not disclosed, also expand the networks' rights to distribute the games and highlights on a variety of emerging digital platforms, including cell phones and Web sites.

Swiss syndicate Alinghi leveled the best-of-nine series 2-2 on Wednesday, beating the Kiwis by 30 seconds to ensure one of the closest contests in the Cup's recent history.

Michael Moore has a suggestion to help California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger bring universal health care to the nation's largest state: Just do it the Austrian way.
"I would like Gov. Schwarzenegger to say that he wants the citizens of California to have the same, fine, universal health coverage he got as a young man in the country of Austria," Moore said Tuesday of the Austrian-born governor.

Tom Sizemore's 16-month prison sentence for violating probation in a drug case was dramatically reduced Tuesday.
Superior Court Judge Cynthia Rayvis gave the actor 213 days of credit for time he has already spent in jail and two live-in drug programs, leaving him with about nine months in state prison.

Tom Sizemore was sentenced Monday to 16 months in state prison by a judge who ruled the alleged discovery of methamphetamine in the actor's car had violated his probation in a previous drug case.
Sizemore "has been in every program, and here he is again," Superior Court Judge Cynthia Rayvis said.
