Sammy Sosa became the fifth member of the Major League's 600 home run club on Wednesday when he connected a solo homer to help the Texas Rangers to a 7-3 win over his old team, the Chicago Cubs.

Sosa, who had gone off the boil after reaching No. 598, hit a solo home run off Jason Marquis in the fifth inning during the interleague home game.

According to Eurogamer, Microsoft calls Iris a "spiral campaign", promising to reveal details about the Forerunners, as well as other elements of the story line.

One of the most anticipated Wii games so far, Manhunt 2 from GTA-makers Rockstar, has officially been given the thumbs-down by the British Board of Film Classification today. According to the BBFC, because of the game's "unremitting bleakness" and "casual sadism", it will not permit the game to hit the UK market...unless Rockstar makes the necessary amendments and re-submits the game for classification.

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved for Windows XP is now available at a reduced price of $2.50 until June 22, 2007. After that date, the price will be $3.95.

The chief architect of Sony's PlayStation game console stepped down Tuesday as the Japanese company struggles to defend its dominance in the video game industry and revive its reputation as an electronics pioneer.

Ken Kutaragi, 56, retired as Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s chairman and group chief executive, the gaming unit said Tuesday. The unit is now headed by Kazuo Hirai, SCE's former president and chief operating officer.

A new NBC show is bound to attract attention for the title alone: "Without Breasts There Is No Paradise."

The network has agreed to produce a prime-time English-language version of the telenovela of the same name, which has set ratings records in Colombia. A Spanish edition with a different cast and script will be made by Telemundo, also owned by NBC Universal.

Parents Wary of Media Violence

Two-thirds of parents said they are very concerned about sex and violence the nation's children are exposed to in the media, and there would be broad support for new federal limits on such material on television, a survey says.

Yet the report, released Tuesday by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation, found that two in three parents said they already closely track their children's television viewing and use of the Internet and video games.

An ex-defense attorney for Phil Spector was declared in contempt of court Monday after she tearfully refused to testify that she saw a defense expert in the murder case pick up possible evidence.

Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler ordered the attorney, Sara Caplan, to be jailed until she testifies. But he stayed the order to allow for an immediate appeal before she was put behind bars.

The city's top prosecutor's office got Paris Hilton jailed for violating probation by driving with a suspended license and then condemned her early release.

On Monday, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo was the one apologizing for keeping quiet about a 2004 accident in which his wife crashed his city-issued vehicle — while driving on a suspended license.

Tiger has a cub. Less than 24 hours after Tiger Woods finished second at the U.S. Open on Father's Day, his wife gave birth to their first child, a daughter. He announced Monday night on his Web site that Sam Alexis Woods was born early Monday morning.

"Both Elin and Sam are doing well and resting peacefully," Woods wrote. "We want to thank our doctors and the hospital staff for all their dedicated and hard work. This is truly a special time in our lives and we look forward to introducing Sam to our family and friends over the next few weeks. We thank everyone for their well wishes and continued respect of our privacy."

China has started improving the road to Mount Everest on the Tibet side to make the trip to the world's highest mountain easier for bearers of the Olympic flame, Xinhua news agency reported.

The 150 million yuan ($19.66 million) project will involve blacktopping an existing 108-km (67-mile) unpaved road up to the foot of the mountain, and will take four months to build, Xinhua said in a report late on Monday.

Blockbuster Inc. will rent high-definition DVDs only in the Blu-ray format in 1,450 stores when it expands its high-def offerings next month, dealing a major blow to the rival HD DVD format.

The move, being announced Monday, could be the first step in resolving a format war that has kept confused consumers from rushing to buy new DVD players until they can determine which format will dominate the market.

Iran on Sunday condemned Britain's decision to knight Salman Rushdie, the author who was forced into hiding for a decade after the leader of the Iranian revolution ordered his assassination.

Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said granting Britain's highest honor to Rushdie, whose novel "The Satanic Verses" sparked the death threat, insulted the Muslim world. His comments came during a time of especially tense relations between the Islamic republic and the West.

"Manufacturing Dissent," a film that accuses Moore of dishonesty in the making of his politically charged documentaries, alleges that he interviewed then-General Motors Corp. Chairman Roger Smith, the elusive subject of Moore's 1989 debut "Roger & Me," but left the footage on the cutting room floor.

'Fantastic Four' Rides $57M Wave to Top

Hollywood's superhero foursome is still fantastic at the box office. The 20th Century Fox sequel "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" debuted as the No. 1 weekend flick with $57.4 million in sales, slightly surpassing the $56.1 million opening of "Fantastic Four" two years ago, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Among other new wide releases, a favorite teen detective had trouble finding an audience as the Warner Bros. mystery "Nancy Drew" premiered with a so-so $7.1 million to finish at No. 7.
