New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi has a broken wrist and will not play in any preseason games, coach Bill Belichick said early Wednesday through a team spokesman.
It was not clear whether Bruschi, 33, will be available for the Patriots' regular-season opener Sept. 10 against the Buffalo Bills.

Maurice Clarett was arrested early Wednesday after a highway chase that ended with police using Mace on the former Ohio State running back and finding four loaded guns in his sport utility vehicle.
Officers used Mace to subdue Clarett after a stun gun was ineffective because the former Fiesta Bowl star was wearing a bullet-resistant vest, Sgt. Michael Woods said.

The National Football League on Tuesday appointed its number two executive Roger Goodell as its fourth commissioner since World War II, ending its search for a successor to the retiring Paul Tagliabue.
The 47-year-old Goodell was elected unanimously by the league's 32 owners after a series of ballots reduced the five-man shortlist to Goodell and lawyer Gregg Levy.

Michelle Wie didn't make it through her first year as a professional without firing her caddie, getting rid of Greg Johnston after a tie for 26th in the Women's British Open.
Johnston began working for the 16-year-old from Hawaii when she made her pro debut last October in the Samsung World Championship, where Wie was disqualified over an illegal drop in the third round.

In June, Taylor reached an agreement with prosecutors to drop felony charges against him and pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors in an assault case, avoiding any jail time that might have derailed his NFL career.

A Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources officer stopped Steinbach because he was violating an idle-only zone Saturday night, agency spokesman Mark Marraccini said.

The U.S. Department of Justice on Monday sued Los Angeles Clippers owner and real estate mogul Donald Sterling for housing discrimination, claiming he refused to rent apartments to blacks and families with children.
Federal prosecutors contend that Sterling, his wife, Rochelle, and their family trust refused to rent to many prospective tenants, treated them poorly and misrepresented the availability of apartments to them in the city’s Koreatown section.

New York Jets running back Curtis Martin told the team to draft a running back in the first round in April because he was concerned he might not be able to play this season because of his injured right knee, the Newark Star-Ledger reported Monday.
"You know it has to be serious for Curtis to do something like that," said a Jets official, who requested anonymity. "That tells you a lot about Curtis. He's always concerned about the team."

The 34-year-old offensive lineman was charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, driving at an unsafe speed and other traffic violations. He was taken to Allegheny County Jail, police Sgt. Dennis Washington said.

Oklahoma confirmed that two players had been dismissed by the team but did not identify them. The school said in a statement that the players violated NCAA rules by working at a private business and taking "payment over an extended period of time in excess of time actually worked."
