Patriots Hope Bruschi Doesn't Have Broken Wrist

The New England Patriots are hoping the latest blow to Tedy Bruschi's health isn't serious.

Bruschi, the Pats' middle linebacker and emotional leader on defense, is nursing a wrist injury and could miss at least a week of camp, the Boston Herald reported. He'll have further tests to determine if the injury is a fracture.

Ohio State must pay former basketball coach Jim O'Brien about $2.2 million plus interest for firing him for giving a recruit $6,000.

The award by a judge in the Ohio Court of Claims on Wednesday ends two years of controversy at Ohio State, which received NCAA sanctions for the money given to the recruit.

Greg Maddux came back to the Cubs and got his 300th win and 3,000th strikeout. He couldn’t get them to the postseason.

Now he’s leaving again, traded Monday to the Dodgers for infielder Cesar Izturis in a move that will give the 40-year-old pitcher a chance to return to the playoffs. Chicago will pay $2 million to Los Angeles as part of the deal.

Crisis-hit Lebanon has withdrawn from qualifying for the 2007 Asian Cup because of the widespread damage to the country caused by Israeli air strikes, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said on Tuesday.

The Lebanon Football Association (LFA) sent a formal letter to the AFC on Monday, citing the “tragic circumstances” inflicted by Israel’s bombardment for its decision.

Martinez (8-4), sidelined since June 28 with an inflamed hip injury, got his comeback off to a shaky start allowing four runs in the first inning but quickly returned to more familiar form shutting down the Braves the rest of the way before turning the game over to the bullpen in the seventh.

The Denver Broncos reported to training camp Thursday minus Ashley Lelie, but with rookie Jay Cutler agreeing to a last-hour deal.

Cutler, the 11th pick in the NFL draft, agreed to a package worth up to $48 million over six years, agent Bus Cook said. The deal was expected to be signed in time for the Broncos’ first workout Friday.
