Lawyers for Barry Bonds’ personal trainer say he’d rather go back to prison for a third time than take part in the grand jury investigation of his childhood friend for tax evasion and perjury.
Fresh off a 15-day jail term for refusing to cooperate in an earlier phase of the probe, Greg Anderson is expected to be called Thursday before a new grand jury investigating the San Francisco Giants slugger. But the trainer is expected to renew his vow of silence.

A day after publicly demanding a trade, Porter sat out practice Wednesday with a calf injury. While other injured players such as Ronald Curry were on the field with their teammates for part of practice, Porter was nowhere to be seen during workouts.

Tour de France winner Floyd Landis has tested positive for the male sex hormone testosterone, the U.S. rider's Phonak team said on Thursday, dealing a savage blow to cycling's most prestigious race.
"The Phonak Cycling Team was notified yesterday by (world cycling body) the UCI of an unusual level of testosterone/epitestosterone ratio in the test made on Floyd Landis after stage 17 of the Tour de France," Phonak said in a team statement.

Sixers president Billy King told The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News on Tuesday he has taken Iverson’s name off the trading block and expects the All-Star to be with the team at the start of training camp.

The Chicago Cubs placed first baseman Derrek Lee on the 15-day disabled list Monday with inflammation in his right wrist, and said there are no plans to shelve the NL batting champion for the rest of the season.
Lee, a two-time Gold Glove winner, broke two bones in his right wrist in a collision with Rafael Furcal of the Dodgers on April 19. He was activated from the DL on June 25 but has experienced some pain and weakness in the wrist since his return.

Barry Bonds' attorney is asking federal authorities to investigate who told a newspaper that the Giants forwarded the baseball star's medical records to a grand jury investigating him for perjury and tax evasion.
Citing two people familiar with the probe, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday that the U.S. Attorney's office had received the medical records last week in response to a subpoena issued to the San Francisco Giants.

Roger Clemens out-dueled Greg Maddux in a battle of future Hall of Famers as the Houston Astros stopped the Chicago Cubs 4-2 at Wrigley Field on Wednesday.
The mouth-watering match-up between 300-game winners lived up to expectations as Clemens and Maddux went toe-to-toe for six riveting innings.
In the end, it was the 43-year-old Clemens (2-3) who prevailed, scattering three hits over six shutout innings to earn a milestone 343rd career win and move into sole possession of eighth place on the all-time list.
Maddux (7-11) went seven innings, yielding three runs on seven hits.
