The Phoenix Suns appointed former NBA sharpshooter Steve Kerr as general manager and president of basketball operations on Wednesday.

Kerr, the most accurate three-point shooter in NBA history, will take over some of the duties of coach Mike D'Antoni, who retains his position as vice president of basketball operations.

Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig has asked Jason Giambi to cooperate fully with the on-going investigation into the use of illegal performance-enhancing substances in the sport.

Last month, Giambi made remarks to USA Today that have been interpreted as an admission of steroids use, and Selig wants the New York Yankees slugger to meet George Mitchell within the next two weeks.

The Chicago Cubs beat the Brewers 7-2 in Milwaukee on Wednesday to record their third win in four games without suspended manager Lou Piniella.

Piniella, who was hit with a four-game suspension for throwing a tantrum in last Saturday's game against the Braves, will return to the Chicago dugout when the Cubs open a four-game series -- in Atlanta.

Billy Donovan couldn't leave Gator glory behind. He knew it less than a day after taking the Orlando Magic job.

The Magic finally made it official Wednesday - 72 hours after news broke that Donovan had cold feet. They let him out of a five-year, $27.5 million deal but didn't disclose terms of the breakup.

The Anaheim Ducks tamed the Ottawa Senators 6-2 on Wednesday to clinch their first Stanley Cup and extend a painful title drought for hockey-mad Canadians.

After the crushing disappointment of losing the Cup in seven games to the New Jersey Devils in 2003, the Ducks would not let a second opportunity slip through their fingers and took the best-of-seven series 4-1.

Suspended Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman has been accused of kicking and hitting two men in his Georgia hometown during the weekend. He has not been charged with a crime, but a magistrate will hear testimony Friday to determine if charges should be filed.

The NFL suspended Thurman for the first four games of 2006 after he skipped a drug test. The suspension was extended to a full season following his arrest on a drunken driving charge in September. Thurman is one of nine Cincinnati players to be arrested in the past year.

A row between the world's two best known women golfers is raising the temperature for this week's LPGA Championship, with Annika Sorenstam saying Michelle Wie lacked class in dealing with a wrist injury.

Former world number one Sorenstam took issue with a decision by teenager Wie to withdraw from a tournament last week when she was 14 over par, citing a wrist injury, only to practice two days later.

Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme conceded on Tuesday he could not guarantee a drug-free race when this year's event starts in London for the first time on July 7.

Prudhomme appeared alongside the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone to talk about how the race would boost tourism, promote cycling and showcase London and Kent where the prologue and first stage will be held.

Animated footage promoting the logo for the 2012 London Olympic Games was removed from the organizers' Web site on Tuesday amid concern it could trigger epileptic fits.

The video clip shows a diver plunging into a pool as part of a campaign to promote the jagged Olympic logo, a graffiti-like blow-up of the number 2012 in a range of colors including hot pink and electric blue.

Trent Green could be on the field with the Dolphins by this weekend after Miami finally agreed to terms with Kansas City on a trade for the quarterback.

Green will undergo a physical in Miami and if he passes it, the trade will be completed, a person within the NFL with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Tuesday night. The person requested not to be identified because the deal is not official.

Tank Johnson of the Chicago Bears, released from jail last month after serving 60 days for violating probation on a guns charge, was suspended Monday for eight games for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

The starting nose tackle is eligible to participate in the Bears' off-season workout program, training camp and preseason games before the regular-season suspension begins after the team's final preseason game, the NFL said.

Some 1.5 million residents of Beijing will be displaced by the time it hosts the 2008 Olympics, many of them evicted against their will, a rights group said on Tuesday, prompting a sharp denial by China.

The Geneva-based Centre on Housing Rights and Evictions said residents were often forced from their homes with little notice and little compensation, as the government embarks on a massive city redevelopment to accommodate the Games.

The Cleveland Cavaliers eased to a 98-82 home victory over the Detroit Pistons on Saturday to advance to the NBA finals for the first time in their 36-year history.

The Cavaliers won the last four games of their Eastern Conference finals to take the best-of-seven series 4-2 and in doing so, became just the third team in NBA history to rally from an 0-2 deficit at this stage of the playoffs.

Piniella was ejected in the eighth inning of Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves.
